Allow only pre-authorized users to log in?

Allow only pre-authorized users to log in?

I'm pretty sure Security Assist can do this but I just want to make sure. I'll be using Security Assist to password-protect a membership list on a website and want to restrict access only to current members. Is there some way for SA to check against a list of pre-authorized users?

Thanks,
John

so you want to manually register users?

yes, this can be done. in the archived documentation section of the security support page, there is a tutorial for user level authentication, it was originally created for SA1, but the principle is the same.

register your user at the admin user level, then protect the registration page using the admin user access rule. this will make the registration page available only to you, then you can register new users manually, only user you register will be able to login.

I'm not sure I want to manually register them, I want to make sure only pre-authorized people can log in to view the membership list. Might be a couple hundred people.

to "pre authorize" them means to register them

security assist is a login system

to access the site the user needs to registered.

only registered users can login.

to limit this to a predetermined group of users, you would need to perform the registration manually.

Jason,

Thanks for your info. That's helpful, but as I'm new to working with MySQL and databases, do you know if a group of over 200 individuals can be entered in bulk? I'm just imagining having to enter each of these one by one into some kind of submission form and it taking hours and hours.

Is there a tutorial about exactly how to register users?

Best,
John

That's great, thank you Jason. It's a lot to learn for me but at least I know it's do-able.

Cheers.
