UE page suddenly stops working

UE page suddenly stops working

Here is a weird one.

I have a Universal Email 3.0.7 page (emailLink.asp) that was working fine -- and now suddenly it isn't.

Instead, it returns this error:

error '80040211'
/WA_Universal_Email/CDOSYS_VB.asp, line 149

However, the problem does not seem to be with CDOSYS_VB.asp as Universal Email does work if you use this page:

contact1.asp

However the CDOSYS_VB.asp error happens if you go to this page...

aboutme.asp

...and click on "Email this page to a friend. Or an enemy" link at the bottom right.

The same error occurs if you access the emailLink.asp page through other pages such as...

ambient.asp?index=0

...and hover over Share at the bottom left then click Email to a friend.

As I said, emailLink.asp was working fine and had been tested in all major browsers. Now I suddenly find that for no reason it is not.

Any ideas what is going on to cause this error?

send a copy of the aboutme.asp and the WA_Universal_Email/CDOSYS_VB.asp files so i can look into the problem.

the 80040211 error message means that the connection to the smtp server cannot be made.

since it was working before, I would guess that your host has done an upgrade and either the SMTP Server name has changed, ot the SMTP server is no longer allowing relay access.

Contact the host to see why you can no longer connect to the SMTP server.

I wondered about that BUT if that's the case then why does UE still work using the

contact1.asp

page?

There is only one CDOSYS_VB.asp page on the site.

Why should it connect through one form and not the other?

is that form configured to use the same from email address? same SMTP Server? same Port?

something must be different in the settings between those 2 pages.

They both use the form sender's name and email address (whatever that may be) so that can't be it.

I'll check the other two...

I think I found the problem -- something else all together. Standby...

In searching for differences, I discovered an obsolete authentication password.

Changing that fixed the problem -- and also explains why the one page stopped working even though the page had not been changed.

Thanks for the hint!
