DataAssist Wizard (not responding)

Having a problem with dataassist wizard 2.0.8 and DW CS5.5

I ran the wizard today for db table 'orders' and it worked fine.
I am trying to run the wizard for table 'orderdetails' and it hangs up and the message (not responding) and then 'Adobe CS5.5 Close the Program'

I have deleted the .dat file and restarted but it still won't run.

thanks for your help,
-Jim Balthrop

at what point does it hang? Opening the wizard, on step 5 or on trying to create the pages?

In some cases, i have seen the wizard crash Dreamweaver if the Files or server Behaviors panels are open, try closing those in Dreamweaver before running the wizard.

is your site using a local testing server or a remote testing server, i recommend a local testing server to prevent issues with Dreamweaver loosing the database connection.

It hangs when it starts to build the pages
It might do 2 or 3 pages and crashes.
I use a testing server but my db is on remote server and my connection
is to that server using php code
000.00.00.000:3306 using IP of server with user and password

did you try this suggestion:

Yes, i tried that and it still crashed several times.

Then, I downloaded and upgraded to DataAssist 2.1.0 and downloaded and changed the library.php file and it worked. Not sure if that was a fix or not, but it did work. (Also, that time, i did close the server behavior panel and the files panel.

thanks for your help,

This is a frequent issue with data assist

A quick look around the web and you will find dozens of support requests regarding this issue.
We have narrowed it down to the fact that Data Assist attempts to store all the variables to build the initial pages, then it attempts to build a preview. If you have a fairly large table that you are working with this may go beyond the limit of your cache and Webassist crashes Dreamweaver.

It would be great if we could simply disable the "preview" windows. These pre-set themes are low grade in the first place and no modern day design would actually use the icons, nor layouts.

I have yet to find a definitive answer - only ones similar to this thread -

"Not sure if that is what fixed it...." WA - "Okay glad to hear its working" - No finalized answer!

well, there is no one final answer to this. There are many things that may contribute to the cause

Size of the Site and having the files window open
Having the server behaviors window open

Sometimes just running the wizard, then running it again without first restarting Dreamweaver can cause the issue.

It would be great if we could simply disable the "preview" windows.

you can disable the preview, go to WebAssist -> Preferences in the Preview section, check the box to disable the preview.
