Enforce unique email in registration page

I have used DA v2.1.0 (in DWCS5.5) to build a registration/insert page.

I want unique email addresses only. What do I need to do to achieve this?

Thanks, Paul.

Two options....

Do a recordset lookup and the entered email address and check to see if the returning results are empty....

... or use the Unique Column Value Validation in Security Assist if you own it.

Thanks for reply Ian.

Before i try a recordest and some validation, i'm interested in using SA.

I have SA v2.0.4, but not sure where that feature is you mention.
Any Ideas?

Thanks,

One of the Server Validation options should be Unique Database Value

You can then validate your email address field in the form against a field in a database table.

Server Behaviours > Web Assist > Validation Toolkit >

Hope this helps?

Well the closest Server Validation I can see is 'Like Entry'.

So using that that;

I've created a 'Validation Show If' server behaviour with the above Validation in the 'Validation Pass' option. I assume this, because if a match (or dupe) has been found in the DB, then i want the behaviour to show an image in my form.

However, its not doing that!

To have the Unique Database Value you must install Security Assist 2.04 as your very last extension.

You guys are on the path to my problem

I have Sec Assist 2, latest version, trying to apply any server validations is triggering an error at creation.

The Unique Database Entry is critical for 2 pages I am trying to write, but applying any server level validation is triggering the same problem. I keep getting pinged with a Java error every time I click "OK". Looks like a pretty easy problem when you know where to look.

Even when I try validating something like "email address", when I click OK; I get errors.

I am using Dreamweaver 5.5, Mac OS 10.7.3, this function appears unique to Security Assist 2, I am using version 2.0.4.

Would love some input here, let me know;

Gary Evans

whenever you report that you are getting an error message, it is very important to also include the text of the error message, without knowing what the error message says, it is impossible to tell what the error message means.

have you tried Deleting the Dreamweaver Cache file from the users configuration folder:
common_installation_issues.pdf

this is the first step to take whenever you get java script error messages in dreamweaver.

Hi Gary,

Like Jason said, the contents of the error message could help to troubleshoot the issue, however, this sounds like a problem that I used to encounter that has been fixed with 2.05.

Might be worth downloading that and giving it another go?

Hello to both of you,

Ian, updating to 2.0.5 appears to have got me on a good track. I now see the screen that asks the questions that I expect to answer to use this validation. Two questions I need to ask that came up in use are:
1: What is the difference between the "Key" column and the "Unique" column. I was not clear in what the text that appears between the 2 was trying to tell me. The table we are working in has an auto increment numeric UserID field and a "unique" requirement on the field of user_email addresses. Can you clarify which field goes where in the validation setup?

2: Redirect page: I can't find in the GSGs how to reroute back to page and set parameters for failed entries. Can you point me to the instructions for failed updates and invalid entries and how to set up the show if behaviors for either instance?

Jason,

Sorry for forgetting that part. There is no file reference, only a java error. I have attached the screen shot of what I am seeing.

I have cleared the cache, that is usually my first stop when an error shows up. I then ran again, no change in problem.

Thanks to both of you for the quick responses.
