Upgrade!!!

Yes! I see you have PowerStore v2 out now. I've already bought it, because it has the features that I was looking for in the older version. Like multiple product options - That's awesome. Now all I need to know is how to upgrade ;)

Any guidance here? I've spent a LOT of time customizing the design, as well as the product catalog (having to put multiple versions of product items, even though they are the same product, but different color) and now I assume the new Powerstore has a different database table for that stuff, so I would love to know how to utilize it without having to re-do everything.

Also - regarding the design (as well as the databases) -- what files do we need to replace? everything? I've installed it in a different folder so I wouldn't lose what I've done so far. And I'm guessing I can probably transfer my images and some CSS to get it to look similar, but I don't know which PHP files are different, what code is different, what I need to replace, etc, etc.. It has no support files included that tell you this - at least, none that I can find?

Thanks!

And by the way, it's great that you guys heard our feature requests and put out an update. Reacting to customer response always differentiates a good company from a bad one in my humble opinion.

You should probably replace everything.

You can leave your products database in tact and keep all of your uploaded images, but you will have to remove the different color options that exist and re-do those with the prostore v2 admin.

You can probably save a copy of your template and relavent css files to restore those as well once updating the entire site.

I'd probably do a dump of your current products table so you don't lose that data, and back up a copy of your current site.

Then start fresh with powerstore v2 and get it working as-is.

Then copy back your images and restore your products database and make sure it all still works.

Then copy over your template and .css files and use DW to update all of the pages using your customized template.

At that point you should have the new site with your customized template and existing products and images.

I was afraid of a reply like this :)

Thanks though - That's what I thought I had to do, but was hoping there was going to be an easier way. That's the only problem with using "solutions" like these - when they're based on pre-created php files, there's no easy way to upgrade when updates come out.

Oh well - That's what you get when you use pre-made sites like these I guess. Hopefully it won't take too much time to redo.

Thanks again Ray - I'll follow your directions and let you know if I have any problems. I like the example site that this new version comes with much better than the old ver.

In the globals file - it asks for the email server. Is that asking for like "mail.[domain here].com" ?? Or would it be localhost?

Thx

You can usually leave it blank. "localhost" is also a common value to use... it could also be an IP address or mail.domain.com address depending on the implementation.

90% of the time blank will work.

This new version of PowerStore - can you now have a product in more than one category? Such as Product A in "Product Category 1" AND "Product Brand Name 1" - so when looking in either category, it will be listed?

No, we did not update the category system from version 1. This appears to be a common request, so it is likely something we will tackle in the next version.

Having just finished a Powerstore site I'm not going to go through all the work described above to upgrade it, although I have purchased version 2 for future sites. The feature I really needed for my existing site is the categories. Is there any way only this part of the new version can be added to my existing database?

That feature (multiple categories) isn't even in the new version - as stated above.
