css menu writer wizard not working

css menu writer wizard not working

I bought menu writer 2 yesterday, installed it successfully in my Dreamweaver CS5. However, when in DW I go to “Insert”, “WebAssist”, “CSS menu writer” it stops there – there's NO “New Menu” button.

With the small display which opens, I can only create a very basic menu. But I cannot style or extend this basic menu. There is no wizard to help me styling the menu.

In the Webassist guide I downloaded it says: "Reenter the wizard / You can reenter the CSS Menu Writer wizard easily after you have created your menu.
1. Click once to select your navigation menu on your page..."
WHERE exactly should I click?

If I click in DW on the page where this basic menu shows, nothing happens.
I have already uninstalled & reinstalled the menu writer - no success.
PLEASE help.
Thanks!

the Insert -> WebAssist -> CSS Menu Wirter access point will open the css menu writer wizard.

On the initial screen, there are select lists to choose from the various presets for saved Menus, Menu Contents Design and Themes.

To edit the contents of the menu, click the Define Button next to the Contents list.

to edit the look of the menu, click the Define button next to the Theme list.

To edit the menu, select the menu in design view, then look in the property inspector, the property inspector (Window -> Property Inspector) will have an edit button.

NOTE: if you have applied the menu to a static HTML page, go to Edit -> Properties. In the Invisible Elements section, makes sure that scripts is selected. next to the menu you should see a shield icon, select the shield icon to rigger the edit option in the property inspector.

Hi Jason,

thank you so much for the detailed explanation, it made my day! From the previous version I was used to a different interface; "New Menu" was displayed as soon as you went in DW to "Insert"... etc., so I was completely lost.

I've now finally created a large menu; just one thing upset me: The software crashed several times when I was just at the last category (layout, or design). Each time I had to start completely from new because I couldn't save anything during the process. It made me loose a lot of time.

Is it important to press the "apply" button each time you set some style choices? Would that avoid the crashing?
May I suggest that you think about a way for the user to be able to save during the design process - otherwise you loose all your work?
