Unable to create MYSQL connection for PowerCMS

Hi Support

I have been a user of PowerCMS(PCMS) for some time now and have recently purchased PowerCMS Builder (PCMSB). I have used PCMSB for one website hosted with Fasthosts here in the UK and it works OK.

I have just moved one of my other websites to 1and1, having seen your recommendations in the help forums and I have selected a Linux package.

The website I moved to 1and1 makes use of other Webassist Pre-Built PHP Solution packages; Contact Form Solution Pack (CFSP) and PowerMessenger (PM) and they have moved to this new 1and1 hosting package OK.

When PM was reinstalled the connection to the MYSQL database was straight forward, however with PCMSB it installs differently and I cannot achieve a MYSQL connection.

First I checked that I have the remote settings for the website defined correctly and when tested, it confirms "Dreamweaver connected to your website Sucessfully"

When in Dreamweaver I highlight some text and then click on Webassist - Add CMS content. At this point I am required to define a database connection using the database settings from the 1and1 control panel as I did for PowerMessenger above which worked, albeit not through Dreamweaver.

I insert the PCMSB activation code whhich is accepted, then I am asked to define a Dreamweaver connection. Using MSQL Server "(mydatabase).db.1and1.com" it fails straight away and gives me an error msg which states "Unknown mysql server host "(mydatabase).db.1and1.com" (11004).

Requesting advice from 1and1 they confirm that connections to their databases are by using SSH/BASH, PHP or PERL as their database is behind a firewall, or through the control panel using the dedecated phpmyadmin. It seems they will not allow user to work directly on the database from their PC.

Any help would be gladly recieved.

Regards Mac

When defining a database connection in dreamweaver, it uses the testing server settings for connecting to the server.

make sure that you have defined a testing server in your site definition, and that the testing server connection uses the same settings as the remote server connection.

Jason

How you saw the wood from the trees in my question above is amazing.

In my testing server my URL was still pointing to localhost, and your answer solved my problem instantly.

Thanks very much - Mac

Hi Jason

Spoke a little too soon.

My Contact Form using CFSP has been upset with the installation of PowerCMS as the Validation elements are now dispaying on the form page as soon as it is loaded.

I notice that the WA_Validation folder has been updated when installing PCMS builder, could this be the issue?

looks like the spry assets folder needs to be uploaded to the server.

trying to load any of the spry javascript files:
SpryValidationTextField.js

gives a 404 error.

Hi Jason

Correct as usual - not sure how that got missed, I must have been asleep - thanks very much.

Oh by the way all the PowerCMS pages have now been modified and uploaded and all appears fine.

Thanks once again for your speedy response.
