SEO Friendly URLS in 4.5

We are looking to upgrade to 4.5 to take advantages of SEO features among other things and we were wondering if 4.5 has the option of having SEO friendly URLs?

creating SEO Friendly URLS is done using Mod Rewrite in apache, not through using a php script.

see the following page for more details:

Thanks for the info, I was just wondering if there was an internal process that you can set and it generates the proper things within the .htaccess file for you. Similar to say, Xcart or ZenCart. Might be more of a feature request in this case it seems.

As long as it can be done without imploding the site that would be good.

No, power store does not have an automated way of generating the .htaccess file for you, it needs to be done manually.

Since power store can be run on both Windows IIS Servers using PHP, and Apache servers using PHP, it is not something that can be automated, the process for doing it in IIS is completely different.

Hi - the simple mode rewrite isn't officially what I want to do i don't think.

say i have .com/store/products_detail.php?ProductID=154

I'd prefer to have

.com/store/product-details/Handle-Metalsinos-Aluminum-&-Chrome

can you point me in the right direction?

using mod rewrite is the only way to accomplish this.

you need to create a rewrite rule for each category to tell the server that the string:
/Handle-Metalsinos-Aluminum-&-Chrome

actually means:
products_detail.php?ProductID=154

I don't have a PhD in mod_write but from what I can understand is in order for me to have fully friendly URLs I'd have to manually create a rewrite for every product ID that in the shopping cart?

this is probably a dumb question but can it be altered to pull the ProductName instead of ProductID from the database?

Yes, that is correct, you need to create a rewrite rule for each condition you wish to rewrite (Product ID, or Category ID)
