Search Results Not Showing When Using Menus

Search Results Not Showing When Using Menus

I used DataAssist to create a Results, Search and Details page to return a list of our workshops.

When I was going through the Wizard, I selected the menu feature to narrow down the search on my search page. I dynamically linked the menus to their appropriate SQL tables (this may be where I messed up). Ideally, I would like give the user the option to make a selection as to narrow down their search. I did create the necessary SQL tables in my database so the menus could pull the correct data.

When I tested the pages, I used the menus on my search page and nothing came up ("no results were found"). I tested my connection to the database and the recordset was returning the correct data. I also removed any sorting taking place in each recordset (in case that was messing up the search page).

Is there suppose to be a URL variable or string query to trigger the search? Does DataAssist make available the necessary triggers when using menus to return the desired results?

Note - I added a static option to my menus (using your video tutorials) so the search page was not taking into consideration the values in each menu.

I am at a loss. I was hoping you could take a look at my files (see attached) to see if I am missing something or if changes need to be made.

Thank you.

each of the select lists on the search page is set to use the ID column as the value.

for example:
The Course Type list is set to use the TypeID of the WADADynListtypes recordsetas the Value, and TypeName column for the label.

the label of a select list is only what the user sees. the value of the select list is what is sent when the form is submitted.

In the presentations table, what data is stored in the PresentType column? is it an id number that relates back to the types.TypeID column? or is it a text value of the TypeName.

if it is the text value, you will need to edit the select list on the search page, and change the value to use the TypeName column.

The presentation table reflects text value of the TypeName. I this case, "seminar" and "online."

I took your advice and changed the value to reflect the TypeName. The select list for this search variable works now.

When testing the search and results page, I noticed that the search select boxes automatically populated with the courses corresponding information, such as CEU hours (duration), type of course (CourseType), but not the Master Certificates Type (mcptype). Is this suppose to happen? Is there a way to have the select boxes default back to "-- Please Select --" variable so the user can attempt a new search without resetting the fields?

When I tested the 'S_PresentMCP' select list, the results page would not return any data. The presentations table reflects the text value of the 'mcptype'. I changed the value to reflect the mcptype (which is where the text value is stored), but it did not do anything.

Am I forgetting a step or missing something here.

to help troubleshoot, please add the PresentMCP column to the results display on the results page.

Thank you, Jason. I inserted the PresentMCP column and it worked.

In closing, I have one other related issue. I noticed that the search select fields automatically populate with information pertaining to the course the was returned from a search. If the user wanted to conduct another search off the results page, they would have to reset each menu field (as it is currently setup).

Is there a way to have the select boxes default back to the "-- Please Select --" variable so the user can attempt a new search without resetting the fields?

I attempted to create a "reset" button, but that did not work. Is there some javascript that can work here?

You can view the page to see what I am talking about...presentations_Results.php

in design view, click on the select list, in the property inspector, click the dynamic button and remove any code from the Select Value equal to section.

repeat this for each select list.
