How to approve registration

How to approve registration

I'm would like to use Universal Email to alert me via email when someone submits a registration form on the site. I know I need to add an email object to the registration page, but I'm not sure what to do from there. Does submitting the form still write all that data to the database, enabling them to login anyway? Also, how do I approve the user?

you would need to edit the user table and create a new column named "verified"

Set the default value of the verified column to 0

You can then add the universal email behavior to the registration page, it will still stoe the registration data into the users table

there are 2 other steps:

1) Update thew authenticate user server behavior on the login page.

On the second page of the authenticate user behavior, add another login condition, click the plus button and select the verified column, set the comparison value to "1"

2) You will need to create an administrative page where you can change a users verification status from 0 to 1

Approval Process

Would it be possible for you to add more detail on the steps outlined previously to enable user approval? I'm fairly technical, but not an experienced web developer. It would be great to see this capability built-in future versions for nuubs like me. ThanksInAdvance!

the steps outlined in that thread are already about as detailed as i can make them without doing a video tutorial.

Is there a specific part of the process you are getting stuck on?

Stuck?

Well, I guess the only part I'm stuck on is whether to buy the product or not, because I need to know I can get it up and running to my requirements without too much effort. I'm not asking you to create a video unless you feel it would be beneficial to others as well.

First, I tried contacting Webassist in a pre-sales fashion, and the responce I received was that it would require simple customization and that I could receive help through the forum. So here I am. I applogize in advance if this is only for current owners of the product.

I did buy Site Sculpter and am learning this product to help me get up to speed, since CS5 and all their training videos still left me with way too much to learn. I thought that InContext Editing was going to work until that feature was killed. Site Sculpter as an entry-point looks great but it's also led me to believe I'll need to also purchase PowerCMS to maintain the site (but I digress...).

I'm the webmaster for a large Boy Scout Troop. We currently use Yahoo Groups which works well for calendar, files, photos and protected communications, but I'd like a bit richer content, and have started my own website. In order to maintain member privacy, we restrict access to the Yahoo Groups pages by making it a private group, and sending out pre-approved invitatons or authorizing a member request that finds our group from another reference. No one can join unless we know they are in our troop. I don't feel that just anyone that fills in a form should be granted immediate access. I get an automated email from YG when someone requests access and It's easy to approve or deny. What I don't get is the full name of the requestor or the name of the scout. Some email addresses give me a hint, but not always. I'd like more information on the membership as well. I looked at the feature tour videos and read some of the forum threads so I think it's easy enough to get that working but that's secondary to my basic need at this point.

I purchased another "security access" product which requires me to manually assign & maintain passwords to our website, but it's too much to handle with a 369 member group. I'm only a volunteer, not a paid web developer.

I like all the features that your product shows, but I simply don't know what the customization would entail when you say "edit the user table". Is this something in your product? Because I can't see anything in cpanel that would allow me to do this. One man's "easy" is another man's "WTH?". ;-)

editing the database table is not something that security assist can do.

you would need to use a mySQL GUI Tool to access the database and edit the table to add the new column.

most hosts will a section of the cpanel for doing this using PHPMyAdmin.

You say you currently have Site Sculpter, do you happen to have SecurityAssist or DataAssist? If you had those or better yet, Dynamic Suite. You'd have all the tools to easily do the steps Jason outlined without a lot of extra work on your part. If you have access to cPanel then you most likely have free/easy access to phpMyAdmin which you'll need regardless of what software you go with to add the columns you require.

Using these same tools, I recently created exactly what you are wanting in less than an hour and pretty much with simple click and fill in the blank steps all the way through.

I don't work for WebAssist but have used their extensions for many years and for what you are wanting to do, those are the ones you'll need.

Thanks for the responce Jason; and the input Jared.

I have looked into phpMyAdmin (first time ever) and the databases installed by various add-ons I've selected. However, editing the table with this tool and updating the login script to take advantage of it, is beyond my skill level at this time. I'd just as soon "Forget the Coding" (hmm, where did I read that?). This looks like a popular thread based on the number of reads. If you had it better documented, I'd try it. However, maybe this capability would be best left with the experts on the next capability update.
