Parse error: syntax error

I renamed the unzipped folder powergallery and uploaded it to my existing site.
pizzapal.co.uk
powergallery
I read this message in the browser bar:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /homepages/42/d330208130/htdocs/pizzapal.co.uk/powergallery/admin_gallery/common/functions.php on line 667
index.php
Please advise

At what point did this error come? Was it simply when attempting to access /index.php for the first time? Or did the error come during or after running the installer?

After a little more poking around, it appears that you are running PHP Version 4.x.x. PowerGallery requires a minimum of 5.2.3.

There is a step in the installer that alerts the user when their PHP Version is inadequate, but in your case, your version of PHP won't even run the code the installer is using.

We're going to look into getting the installer to run on versions of PHP that are less than 5.0.0 so users can at least get a reason why they can't install rather than this ugly parse error.

Thank you for reporting this.

I don't know the importance of updates because I'm a web development learner. I tend to reject broad knowledge for a smaller linear sequence of information I can re-implement.
