Complete solution required

A great deal of time has passed since Interakts KTML product passed away and I still havn't found a COMPLETE solution to html editing with image and file management that comes anything like close to it.

The ease of use (no hours wasted sorting out path coding) along with comprehensive file management and image tools that were included put everything else on offer to shame.

TinyMCE is there - but you have to buy the separate manager.
Same with FCK.

iRite obviously lacks any file management capability as its just a wrapper for an old version of plain vanilla FCK.

There is a golden opportunity to create a product that every developer will use.
An easy to install - one click solution - html editor - with image and file management.

over to you webassist!

There are lots of plugins to fckEditor that you can use to do this.

CKFinder is one and so is: kfm.verens.com/

We are investigating the possibility of including one of these or others in a future release of iRite.

Appreciate the link Ray.

But the following seems something I say a lot on the WA forums.

I purchase plugins to do a job quicker than I can code by hand - I REALLY don't want to lift the hood and spend hours fixing stuff together, looking up individual install notes etc - that's why I look to plugin develper like WA to supply a ONE-CLICK Solution. Otherwise I might as well keep my money in my pocket and do the job myself??

You guys have the capability - seems like a golden opportunity to build a comprehensive solution to this ever present problem of finding a one-click database linked HTML editor, File and Image management system.

To be fair these solutions I sent you to are specifically designed to integrate into the solution with only updating three lines of code that they specify clearly how and what to update.

It shouldn't take hours under the hood... give it a try and see. Use CKfinder if you want the fastest and easiest implementation. kfm is a little harder because of setup of the database that goes with it, but is still pretty simple to implement.

We do see this as an opportunity for the next version of iRite to go more in that direction and our solutions would benefit from that. We are a relatively small company, and we have lots of opportunities to improve all of our extensions. We aren't dropping the ball, we are carrying quite a few balls with just a few people. You will see that just about everyone's suggestions are implemented in time when they make sense.

I'm just giving you simple alternatives in the meantime. That isn't to imply that we aren't going to do something like this ourselves in the future... maybe even the near future.

I understand what you are saying Ray. :)

I've already implemented CKFinder in one iRite project.

for me

1) I just don't want a disparate collection of semi related bits of code to accomplish the job. Too many parts to go wrong - too many developers to cover if issues arise.
2) A DW extension should mean I can do everything in a DW wizard - file paths especially need to be resolved there - not hacking around in source view
3) I have one point of contact, and I'm not referred to a third parties documentation or bug list if the extension is just a wrapper for another companies app

If you can produce something comparable (or better) than Interaks old KTML and I'll be first in the queue

Total agreement with everything W_A_Mail has posted here. One UI to do a complete job. That's what makes an extension worth it. One could just as easily download the FCK editor for free and spend the time fiddling with integration as one would paying up and still having to trawl the code.

Wasted opportunity. Glad to hear you are working on a better product.
