Can't add new pages

Can't add new pages

I'm running an Apache server with PHP5 and mySQL5. I've created the site a number of different ways using Dreamweaver CS4. No matter what I do from creating new tempates (DWT) to new styles I can not seem to create new pages AFTER the CMS is uploading to the site. I do not see a "Green +" as illastrated in the Web Assist demo and help files.

OK, maybe I'm not the smartest guy in the group so I use the Site Sculpture DEFAULTS and ensured Content Manament box was check and STILL not able to add pages. This program is suppost to add pages.

Has anyone else had problems that can shed some light on my delema or point me in the right direction?

to be able to create new pages, you need to set up a page in the site to be a tempalte

in the Site Sculptor wizard, Click the Define button next to "Site Type".

select the page that other pages should be based on and set the "Use as Content Management Template" option.

Adding New Pages Revisited

Jason,

Thank You, I knew someone out there could put me on the right track. After recreating the site and designating each page as a template I am able to add new pages and now can start building.

Use as Content Management Template GRAYED OUT

I'm confused. Do I create the site, then save pages as templates?

The text in the help page suggests that you have to create teh template before you run the wizard.: "Creating new pages

You have the ability to create new pages that are based on a template. This feature is only available if the page was selected to be used as a content management template when the website was created."

Anyway the "Use as Content Management Template " is grayed out.

What is the work flow?

you are confusing Dreamweaver Templates and CMS Templates, easy to do.

The Dreamweaver Template is a file created that contains the site design.

you can use your own template to create the site design if you like.

The CMS Template is virtual template. it is a way of dynamically adding new pages to your site. These are not physical pages though. there is only one physicle page created that is used as a content template, the content that is displayed in that page changes based on a url variable.

to enable CMS content templates:
-before you start the site sculptor wizard, make sure that the site is defined to be a php site
in DW CS 5.x: Go to Sites -> Manage Sites. select your site and click the edit button. In the servers section, edit the one that has the Testing box checked, on the advanced tab, select PHP / MySQL as the server Model

In DW CS4 and below, Go to Sites -> Manage Sites. select your site and click the edit button. set the view to Advanced, in the category section select the Testing Server. Set the Server model to PHP / mySQL.

- Create a new PHP page and save it to your site.

have that page open when starting the wizard. On the first screen, select the option to "Include Content Management with this Site"

Hi Jason,
I've done that, and see a way to add pages, but how do I incorporate a page into the navigation menu? In other words, if I'd like to add a page to the drop down "About Us," how do I do that?

Thanks

you would need to edit the menu code to add the new page link.

open the CSSMenuWriter/cssmw_content/menu.php and CSSMenuWriter/cssmw_home/menu.php files to adde the new menu item.
