Forgotten Password Email Advice needed

Hi
Forgive my ignorance but, I have just run through the security assist wizard to create a simple event registration process, I have 2 questions

1/ I am developing the site on XAMPP windows 7 local machine,
On step 6 where you have to specify either Linux or Windows, My Live Server is Linux so I specified Linux, because this is ultimatly where I will be uploading the site. If this is this correct should the form still work while on the windows platform?

2/ I have mercury mail installed and set up on XAMPP localhost, what settings should I enter to test the functionality of the forgotten password email?
In step 6 you have to enter
Server name: yourmailserver.yourdomain.com (localhost.directory_file_name?)
Return Path: you@yourdomain.com (mercury_user_name@localhost?)

Thanks in advance

to test the email on a Windows server, you would need to use Mail For Windows, then change it to mail for Linux before uploading to the remote server.

I believe the smtp server address should be localhost, but you should double check the Mercury mail documentation.

The Return path is an optional parameter and is not needed.

to be honest with you, I have never been able to get email functionality working using Mercury Mail with xampp, I do all of my email testing on the live server instead of trying to use Mercury Mail.

Thanks Jason
I had pretty much come to the same conclusion, I would like to make you aware as I always test cross browser compatability, that the cookies do not get cleared properly in ie9, (there are several posts regarding this issue on Google), this forces a redirect to the profile page rather than the login, Opera, Safari, Firefox & Chrome are all ok.

maybe try adding the following to line 1 of your security assist pages:

php:
<?php session_cache_limiter'nocache' ); ?>
