coupon code craziness

coupon code craziness

i do not have a "Category" field in the cart.
however my client wants to add a discount to a category.
the itemid would begin with SS.
can i use some kind of TRIM on the itemid to get this?
the itemid would look like this SS2411 SS3011 etc.
we are aiming for 25% off any items that start with SS

a 2ndary issue is that we have a discount on 1 item with a coupon code.
SS2411 is discounted with coupon code lucky.
the client does not want ss2411 to get both discounts.
she wants the individual item discount to override the category discount IF the user enters the discount code. (but all other items with SS would still get the category discount).

i have stared at the screen for a while now and tried to figure out - where to start!

you need to have the category field for this to work.

you need to have a cart column to mark the items the discount should apply to.

you can use that column in the discount rules using the Items with a specific column value trigger.

for the SS2411 item, you will need to handle this one separately and create two rules, one to apply if the coupon code is set and the other to apply if the coupon code is not set.
