Using Triggers

When using DataAssist, and other dynamic extensions, I have noticed the various options to trigger the behavior. I usually use Any Form Post or Current Page Submit, and sometimes a button press if I have more than one button on a single forms that I want to produce different outcomes. .

First, what is the difference between Any Form Post and Current Page Submit?

And second, what are some practical applications for using a dynamic trigger, such as a recordset value or session variable? How do those work and what are some practical uses? I feel that I'm missing something I could be using and instead I'm creating more work for myself when I don't need to be.

If anyone has used these features, I'd love to hear how they've been used! Thanks.

Any form post means that any form from any website pointed at your page will trigger it, please never ever use this. Current Page submit is more secure as it checks that it is your page that is submitting the data (although this can still be spoofed)

If you want a particular update or insert to happen only if a certain piece of data is present then that is what you would use these for.

Thanks Dave -

That's good advice on the form post. I've also noticed that a form post from a previous page will trigger it. For example, I sometimes display a result set on the same page that includes an input form, and the Any form post will basically just execute the insert or update and take me right to the next page.

Lon,

yep that's why you need to be careful about what triggers you use to submit forms
