stuck on installation wizard, step four

stuck on installation wizard, step four

After many hours of headache, I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (I think). But now, I can't get past Step 4 of the Installation Wizard. No matter what username / password I dream up (instructions say I can use anything), I get this error message:

ERROR: Failed to save the settings in the database. Please verify your database connection.

So what's the deal now?
Thanks.

Things to check

I would check MySQL account privilege. Does the MySQL user account has proper write privilege to access the database? Here I'm talking about MySQL user name and password, not CMS admin login and password.

In my case I've always used the root account and never bothered with multiple users for a single database so it's never been an issue. In rental server situation, though, they usually give you a way to set up multiple users for a single database with multiple privilege levels.

I would also make sure you set up a new blank database every time you create a new site. You can do that via PhpMyAdmin.

Another thread has an answer from WA support

showthread.php?t=17979&highlight=ERROR%3A+Failed+save+settings+database.+verify+database+connection.

I would add that in the case of MAMP username and password is NOT blank: the default is

username: root
password: root

On a typical hosting service, cPanel usually gives you a way to set up new databases and new users as well as user name and password.

not it

Thanks jciol2009, but that's not it. I did set up the database with all privileges, new through PHP My Admin. Don't know what MAMP username and password is though...

How about the user for MySQL?

Are you using MAMP? If so, the root user (username = root, password = root, if you haven't changed the default MAMP root setting) should give you all access to any of your databases in MySQL. Here I'm talking about MySQL user to get into the database you created in PhpMyAdmin in the first place.

christie367953:

There is a support ticket I started for you in another thread, you should update the open support ticket with these details so we can look into this issue with you when we address the other problem you are having.

I have no clue what MAMP is, so I don't know if I'm using it or not. Power CMS is advertised as a simple to use extension, and that you only have to know Dreamweaver. Obviously NOT AT ALL true.
If you could give me a clue here, and let me know what you're talking about, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

MAMP is a local PHP MySQL server used to test php web pages on your local computer.

If you dont know what MAMP is, then you probably dont have a local testing server set up and are running the install on the remote server.

We will look into this with you when we contact you about the other problem you are having that I started a private support ticket if you will just update that ticket with the details on this problem.

Details on MAMP is found here:

With all due respect, I suggest you take the marketing buzz with a grain of salt. It's like saying driving a car is super easy and you don't have to be a car mechanic to drive one but in reality you still do need to learn a lot of details and practice a lot. I'm just another user and I have suffered from the initial glitch but not too long and it really is pretty decent. I also do WordPress and other SaaS based CMS customization/development, and I would much rather use this one when I need a lot of control over layout and more control over where to insert online editable regions and want to use my own hosting. That's just me though.
