Struggling with latest version of powergallery

Latest version PG installed ok no obvious problems during installation.

However, the following are causing big headache!

1.) ../admin_gallery/choosedesign.php
I cannot change the current design. Clicking on apply makes no difference there's no activity and nothing saves.
Also, when i click on preview, the correct design loads, but freezes on 'loading....'

2) ../admin_gallery/addtosite.php
When I place the php code in my page, the currently (unchangeable) design shows all 21 sample pics in full size with the ribbon shown at page bottom.
This is not expected/desire affect

No idea if these are related.

Same error behaviour in chrome, firefox and IE8

Any ideas?
