Setting a default country on checkout page?

I'd like to set the US as the default country for the checkout page. I assume I would make this change to the checkout_form.php page, right? What would be the recommended change?

on the checkout_form.php page add the following code just after the ,body> tag:

php:
<?php

if($totalRows_WAATKusers == 0) {

$row_WAATKusers['UserCountry'] = "US";
}
?>

Nice one! So - if the individual has never registered, then their default will be US. Of course if they have registered, they would have already specified an explicit country....

Crafty. I'm glad I asked - I would have taken a much more blunt approach (and probably more troublesome, too)!

it's not so much about registration as it is about being logged in.

they could be registered, but not logged in.

If they are not logged in,the default is set to US, if they are logged in, then it will use what ever country they registered with.
