Well I guess it's for the best

Well I guess it's for the best

That my head just exploded while trying to edit themes in PS4.01.
I created a new theme (I named it "bole") a while back (weeks) and have been coming back to it periodically to make further changes.
This morning I hit the "Edit Theme" button as I have done on so many occasions and got an obtuse response that I get about half the time. You know the one - An Unsaved Theme Was Found etc. -. It has now dawned on me that that response will happen if you choose to edit a theme and than have second thoughts and simply close the window without making any changes at all. That is simply unacceptable. When that warning pops up I need to know that it means what it says. That an unsaved theme has actually been found. I'm never sure which choice to take.

But that's not the real problem.
I chose correctly and proceeded to make the changes I had in mind and than I saved.
The theme disappeared. Gone. No Where To Be Found!
I am now back at square one and will have to attempt to retrace my steps using the less than perfect edit themes tool and hope that - in the end - it will not turn on me yet again.

I am deeply disappointed.

Yours
Mick

PS
And why am I asked to "Please Enter a Name for this Theme" every time I make a change and save?
You already know what the name is.
Whenever I do this the permissions change on the server and I have to go there and change them back.
This is awful.

when you edit a theme, a copy of the theme is created in the webassist/themes/temp_editing folder, when you save the changes, the contents of this folder are moved to the webassist/themes/<name of theme> folder.

if you do not save your changes, the temp_editing folder is left alone, and the next time you chose to edit ta theme, you will get the message saying that An Unsaved Theme Was Found.

it sounds like you are having a permissions problem on the themes folder, try changing the permissions on the theme folder to allow for read write and execute for all users.

when you edit, then save a theme, you have the option to enter a new name for the theme or to save it using the same name, this allows you to create different version of theme with slight variations.

It's not an issue of unsaved changes. It's about opening the theme to edit it and doing nothing at all to it, closing it (not cancel or save) with the button at the top of the window and getting the "unsaved theme" warning when you open the theme again sometimes days later.

Regarding the "Save" issue
There should than be a "Save As" button as well. That would eliminate the problem.
If I choose "Save" all I want it to do is save.

And the theme I was working on for some time is gone gone gone. No where to be seen. No temporary files, nothing.

And yes the permissions are a big problem.

by opening the theme to edit, you are creating a new version in thethemes/temp_editing folder. the existence of the new version in the themes/temp_editing folder generates that warning.

If you have suggestions for new features or changes that you would like to see implemented, please post to the wishlist forum.

There will be an update to power store made available soon that will address the permissions issues, we are in the process of QA testing on it right now.
