Splitting products

Pardon if this question is at all obtuse.

Assume a product with a multiplicity of advanced options - color, size…

If for clarity it is advisable to split the product up so that e.g. each color becomes a separate product yet the sizes, descriptions etc. are all nearly the same; can they be separated in some way other than to simply delete all the colors save one and subsequently recreate all the other colors of that product from scratch as separate products?

There is no automated way to enter product information.

if you wanted to split the products in this way, you would need to delete them, then recreate them.

Thanks Jason

Bummer.

Does the deletion of an advanced option e.g. "color - Chocolate Brown" for a particular product - Shirt X - delete (in effect) all the iterations of "Shirt X Chocolate Brown" that would have carried that option in the db?
Or does it still exist in the db but there is no longer a reference to it from the store?

It will still exist in the database, but it is no longer associated to the product.
