Canadian purchases failing

We're using PowerStore 3, and have been making successful sales for quite some time. Now, we're starting to hear from Canadian customers that they can't complete the purchase process. We're using PayPal Pro as our gateway, and UPS as our shipping service.

The message people are getting is:

"Transaction Not Completed

We're Sorry

Your transaction could not be completed. Either your credit card information or billing address has problems and cannot be processed Please return to checkout and try again."

Is there a problem the PayPal, the UPS API, something else? Please help.

Can you reproduce the problem?

If you look at the full url to the failure page, does it have anything about shipping?

You could add more information to the page with:

<?php var_dump($_SESSION); ?>

That will likely tell you the problem, but first you'll have to reproduce it to see.

We haven't been able to recreate the problem, since we don't have a Canadian address and credit card we can use. However, one customer forwarded the error page and url to us. The url is as follows:

checkout_failure.php?shipping=fail

so it looks like there might be a problem with the shipping api. Any ideas?

Well that is definitely a shipping problem.

You should be able to use a dummy credit card: 4111111111111111

and reproduce the problem by entering the same shipping information they used. Then use the var_dump() code I provide above to get more information about why it is failing.

It may not like the way they are entering the zip code. Canadian zip codes are different than the US version and it might for instance fail if there are spaces left in the zip code entered?

At least you have narrowed it down to the shipping, but from there you need to reproduce it and add the debug code to really find out the exact problem.

I've recreated the problem, using a customer's canadian address. I put in the testing code, and it gave me this dump:

I should note, the shipping charge that was supplied by the UPS api was also very high for this item, almost $270. Could that be related to this issue?

Well in this case it failed the checkout (presumably because of the bad credit card) and so you haven't really reproduced the original problem.

I'll open a support incident for you so that an engineer can call you and work with you directly to try to resolve this issue.
