show only records not present in another table

I have a list of events to which members can be invited

the table structure is as follows..

tblevent
eventid(PK)
eventname
...etc

tblmember
memberid(PK)
membername
...etc

tbleventmember
eventmemberid(PK)
eventid
memberid

tbleventmember is my many-to-many table which allows any number of members to be at each event.

i have an 'add multiple members to an event page', which inserts rows to tbleventmember.

this works fine.

at present, the datasource for the add multiple page is simply tblmember

i would like to change this, so that for a specific eventid, my list shows only members in tblmember whose id is not present in tbleventmember.

can anyone suggest the simplest way of achieving this ?

you would need to use a compound select statement:

SELECT * FROM tblmember WHERE tblmember.memberid IN (SELECT tbleventmember.memberid FROM tbleventmember WHERE tbleventmember.memberid != 2)

By using the IN key work, the first query is using the result set from the second query as it's source.

Great.

That's what I needed.

I managed it easily in the MSAccess GUI, but couldn't work it in MySQL,

Thanks again
