MySQL server has gone away

MySQL server has gone away

Just ran into this one...

I am updating product options in the admin section. When I make the changes and select update, I just started getting a dialog box asking me to save a php page and the the window goes white with the following message: MySQL server has gone away.

Has anyone else ran into this? It was working fine up until a few minutes ago. I am using godaddy as the server.

Thanks again.
Rob

It may have just been a temporary issue communicating with the database. Are you able to reproduce the problem consistantly now?

All of the pages use the same database connection file, so if it connects on one page you wouldn't expect this error in the middle of everything else working.

I'd refresh the page or go to another page and come back and see if the error still comes up.

It is pretty consistent now, not sure why.

Still only on that page or throughout the site now?

Ray,
It was happening on any page that I tried to update from and then also on the detail page.
I called godady and they suggested I enable sshand direct access. That seems to have worked although I am not sure why since it has never happened before.
Do you see any issues with enableing ssh and direct access?

I think the issue had something to do with database permissions. I don't think it was an issue with the code on the page itself. I'm however not an expert at server configuration, so if that is what they recommended, then it is probably the correct solution. The real question might be why would you have to do that and does it represent an improper installation in the first place, and again I really don't know.

I was in the middle of updating and the problem has come back.
The update page and corresponding page give me the server has gone away message. Also every now and then after the page has updated, instead of refreshing a dialog box pops up asking me to open or save products_update.php
Is there anything I should try?

It sounds like an issue that your hosting provider would need to look into. That is not a common issue nor does it sound like something that would be caused by a problem with the script itself.

Ray,
I spoke with GoDaddy. They tested the servers, scripts, connectivity and db congestion but could not find an issue. They were able to replicate the error I get when using the store manager though. I googled the error and it seems that the insert or replace statement could cause the issue, I am not sure though.

Can I email you a link with the password so you can see what I am going through?
I really needed to be live by now. I am running into issues that I had no problems with in version 2.

Thanks.
