"To" address

Thread began 12/17/2010 10:24 am by mick106153 | Last modified 12/20/2010 10:40 am by Jason Byrnes | 1593 views | 3 replies |

"To" address

I have read that if the "To" address is dynamically generated that spam can be subverted to some extent.
Is that true?
If so, how is it done?

In this case I have a form on a site that visitors fill out and send. The forms all go to a common address and they've recently been hit by a small flood of spam. The "From" is dynamic but I can't see how to make the "To" dynamic.

Thanks
Mick

a dynamic to address will have no effect on spam.

Is your form using the Security features of Form builder? The captcha, security question and honey pots?

this would go a lot farther in preventing spam than a dynamic to address would.

Thanks Jason

I mentioned the dynamic "to" because I read it here…
how-to-minimize-spam/

specifically the following…
"If you want to allow visitors to your Web site to contact you, provide an online form, and put the "send to" e-mail address in the form processing script rather than the HTML of the form itself."

unless they mean something other than what I think they mean.
And yes, captcha, security question and honey pot are all in place.

Mick

PS
In retrospect I guess the email address doesn't appear in the html so dynamic generation would be superfluous.
Am I right or wrong?

what that article is referring to is having the address visible in the page source when viewed in a browser.

When yo enter the to address in Universal Email, it is being set as a server side variable that will not be visible by the client browser. This means that a visitor to your page cant find the to address and start sending spam to that address.
