eCart 5 & Discounts

I have done the tutorial on setting up a discount for the cart with the promo code. I have applied it to the cart but my customer doesn't want the discount to apply to every product. I set up a new column in the database called discountable and I read through another thread about setting up the column and updating the add to cart button and binding the new column to the product pages. I also only want the discount applied when the promo code is entered.

However I don't understand how to set up the discount in the eCart objects. I really need some help here, because I can't find any information about this.

Why are there no more information about how to set up various discounts and how to use each different condition and calculation? The eCommerce Solutions Recipe goes through some but not all the conditions and it was written for eCart 3. Wouldn't it be more useful updated to reflect eCart 5 so that users know they are doing thing right.

Last question: I didn't have Universal Email loaded when I did my first carts, is there a way to add that feature or do I have to start all over again? The reason I ask is because I'm afraid to start all over. I have done the eCart 2 times now and both times I have had similar problems. I did take note on the second help, but I feel like it will just happen again, which is frustrating because I paid money for this program, and I won't be able to figure out each item that needs to be fixed because I'm not a programmer who understands all the code and what I need to be looking for to make corrections.

the triggers for setting up this discount will be exactly the same as in the promo code tutorial.

you will just need to add one additional trigger:

Number of items with a specific column value
If the total number of items where 'discountable' has a value of '1' is '>' a value of '0'

then for the calculation use:
Based on items with a specific column value
Total of 'TotalPrice' where 'discountable' has a value of '1' 'times' '0.1'

substitute the percentage you wish to use. All of the available options for the discounts are explained in the eCart help docs. on the discounts tab, click the Help button to go to the context sensitive help page.

You can add universal Email after the checkout wizard has run, but it is simpler to do it within the checkout wizard. How to do it depends on the gateway and checkout method (Local or Remote) that you selected in the checkout wizard.

you would need to add the universal Email behavior to the confirm page.

Set the to address to use the eCartCheckoutForm_email session variable.

in the message use an email friendly Cart Display.

Create a blank page to design the email message. Add an eCart Display to it using the email friendly display.

in Universal Email for, Select the option to Create a file for email message, next to the list of templates, click the folder icon and select the file you created.
