Custom dynamic shipping rates question

Hi
I have an eCart site which has been in operation for the past 2yrs. (eCart 4.5.2) and now the client has decided to change the shipping cost based on postcode group. The freight charge would be based on the number of cartons x postcode group rate. I believe the best way to habdle this part is to setup the postcode groups in a table that they can manage.
So, the immediate question I have is to do with the number of cartons. The client packs up to 12 individually purchased items in a carton then ships the cartons. So I need to somehow grab the eCart's SubTotal of Quantity and start from there.

How can I get this value - I will be grabbing that in the Confirm.php page and with that should be able to work out the total shipping cost.
Thanks.

you can get the total quantity of items in the cart using the following code:

php:
<?php echo $YourCartName->TotqalColumn("Quantity"); ?>

where YourCartName is the name of your eCart object.
