Preview Dissapeared

Installed Super Suite on CS3, also in CS5 Trial. The page preview inside the SS extension is no longer visible in CS5; the preview in browser works fine.

The page preview inside the SS extension works fine in CS3.

Also missing in CS5 are the Theme It, Site Assist, and other extension internal previews. I've searched the forum and found several references to similar situations, but the solutions in those instances either aren't applicable (3rd party browser toolbars) or didn't work (instances of a phrase in .js resource files).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension, and then uninstalling and reinstalling CS5 then the extensions, with no joy. Running Windows 7 Professional 64bit, 4 GB ram. . .

Thanks for any guidance, and Happy Thanksgiving. . .

Mike

Under the WebAssist menu you should see a Preferences access point. Open the Preferences window and click the preview from the left hand side column and try toggling the preview check box on or off to see if that enables/disables the preview.

I can check or uncheck the box -- no change in preview.

Oddly enough in CS3 I can check or uncheck the box, but the change doesn't remain, and the preview does. . .

Weird -- thanks for the suggestion though. Next??

Update

I uninstalled all WA extensions, uninstalled CS5, used CS5 Cleaner and cleaned the registry.

I then performed a new install of CS5, performed all CS5 updates, and installed Site Sculptor. Still no preview in the extension window. Browser preview is fine (available regardless of the condition of the "Disable Preview" checkbox in WA preferences), but extension preview is not available regardless of the state of the Disable Preview checkbox.

The message in the preview box says to click to preview in browser; it does not have the "generating preview" message.

Thanks --

Mike

Update 2

I tried using SiteAssist 3, and get this error message when it opens:

While executing timer in WASA_SiteAssist.htm the following Javascript error(s) occurred:

At line 451 of the file "C:\Michael Perry\....\WA_Preview.js"; tDim has no properties.

The error happens 2 times, once for each preview window in the extension. Perhaps this will help narrow down the problem. . .

ETA: Preview in CS5 works for a non-Administrator account on the same PC. Perhaps a permissions problem??

Edit 2: Further investigation shows that the above cited error occurs with the WA_Preview.js file that is part of the SiteAssist 3.2.3 extension -- the current version of WA_Preview.js does not throw this Dreamweaver error.

Site Asisst 3 is not compatible with Dreamweaver CS5. It is compatible with Dreamweaver 8, CS3.

You will need to upgrade to Site Sculptor for CS5 compatibility.

I understand --

The original (and still pervasive problem) is no preview in ANY current WA extensions.

I have done a complete uninstall of both CS3 and CS5. I have cleaned the registry, and performed a reinstall of both. Any previous trace of WA extensions was wiped out, unless there is something hidden in the registry. I can see and use Site Sculptor preview under two other accounts in CS5; it is not available under my primary account name. I even created a new clean account with the user name Michael Perry (after renaming my old account), thinking there might be an issue with my USER.DAT file. No joy.

What is it about an OS user name that renders the Extension Preview unavailable??

Update

I created a new regular user with the username of Mike Perry. Installed the Site Sculptor extension -- it works. I go back to the new Michael Perry user and the SS preview doesn't work. I switch to the Admin user (administrator), and it works. I switch to another regular user and it works.

The new Michael Perry username (clean) seems to hang the extension preview.

If someone from WA wants to follow up with this I'd be happy to help. For now I'm going to transition to the new Mike Perry user for everyday use
