Changing the URL of my store

Changing the URL of my store

The URL that was set up for our store is turning out to be a bad choice. It's a subdirectory of our main company site, so it reads store. For SEO purposes it's not ideal, especially since the main company site is all-Flash.

If we wanted to change the Store url, how hard would that be? Is it just a matter of moving our store files to a new domain and making the old domain redirect to the new one? Or is it more complicated than that? What would be the steps?

If it's PowerStore 4, It should work just copying the store files to the new domain.

Changing store url in PS3

Thanks Jason,

We have PowerStore 3. Is it still that simple? Anything else I should know?

And also, I would copy the files to the new domain via my Host Server control panel, right? Or via PowerStore admin?

In Power Store 3, you may need to edit the store path in the wa_settings table.

wa-settings table?

OK, where is that?

And also, I would copy the files to the new domain via my Host Server control panel, right? Not the PowerStore admin.

in the power store database, there is a table called wa_settings.

you would need to edit the Site URL, Local Root and Remote Root records in this table.

wa_settings LOCATION

Please Jason, where in the database is the wa_settings table? Would one edit this through the PowerStore interface or via the Host server file manager??

a data base is a collection of tables, when you access the power store database, one of the tables you will see listed is the wa_settings table.

you would not access this through the power store admin.

You would need to use a database management tool like PHPMyAdmin. Your host may offer a site management console that includes PHPMyAdmin access to the database for management.
