Please Help...Using Ecart with Static Html

I just purchased ecart 5 yesterday. All of my pages were created using html. I am fairly new to all of this. I installed Xampp, set up a dynamic site definition in dreamweaver and set up the Mysql connection as well. I am still not sure what has to be done next in order to get the cart to work with my html pages. Please help!!! Thank you in advance.

eCart cannot be used on static html pages.

the pages extension will need to be changed from .html to .php.

before jumping in and adding eCart to your existing pages, start with a blank set of pages and go through the getting started guide to become familiar with how eCart works, once you are a little familiar with eCart, adding it to your pages should be a little easier.

The guy on the phone and on the website says that the cart cannot be used with html pages. It does say it can be incorporated with html pages. What does that mean then?

By changing the extensions of my pages from .html to .php, what exactly will happen to my pages. Is it just a simple matter of changing the extensions or will there need to be other things that have to be changed. I am fairly new to all of this and I am not familar with how .php works. The guy on the phone at webassist didnt tell me I needed to change my pages to .php. He just said I would have to incorporate the .php pages from ecart with my html.

Thank you for your help.

a web site can have a mix of PHP and HTML pages, this is what was meant by sayin that eCart can be integrated into an HTML site.

eCart will place server side code on your pages.

The server side PHP code cannot be added to an HTML page. It can only be added to a dynamic PHP page.

You will need to create new pages to add the eCart functionality to and give them the file extesnion .php.

If you wanted to add the eCart functionality to the HTML pages you have already created, they will need to be renamed with the PHP extension.

This will likely break links between the pages until you edit the linking urls to use the php extension as well.
