Spry validation disabled

Thread began 10/21/2010 7:41 pm by georgevargasa302189 | Last modified 10/25/2010 5:19 pm by Jason Byrnes | 2533 views | 10 replies |

Spry validation disabled

I used HTML editor to modify a contact form produced originally by CSS form builder. The text box originally had a spry validation requiring some text to be entered.

After adding the HTML editor to the text box the validation does not work. Is there a way to restore the validation function?

I have enclosed the file.

No spry validation cannot be applied to an html editor field.

you can use server validation on the html editor field though to make it required.

I tried that and got the following error message;

"Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or a translator. The change will be discarded."

I did this by selecting WA Validation tool Kit > Server Validation.

The error you are getting is a common one when working with templates in Dreamweaver.

There is no solid fix for the issue, but I have discovered a workaround. See the following thread for details:

Thank you that made the server validation work.

The main problem now is this would be somewhat frustrating to the user. The form contents are wiped out and there is no indication to the user of what went wrong.

Do you think the spry validation being disabled will be fixed some time in the future?

I did notice HTML editor is part of the new version of CSS form builder, is it functional in that update?

If so is there a grace period since I just purchased both of these products last month?

Select each form element, in the property inspector, click the lightning bolt ans select the corresponding Validated Entries option.

The form elements still come back empty when the Server Verification fails because the text box is left blank.

If I specify a default value if the field is unverified, they only show up if I close my browser before going to the page. Otherwise the field are blank.

Also even if I get the values to work, users may still assume their email was sent if there is no error message shown.

I found I could edit the server behaviors which already existed to add the coment field check back in. This at least restores the check to make sure the comment field is not left blank, and keeps the other fields values intact.

The problem is that I cannot add back the 'Validation Show If' which tell the user to enter a comment. If I do, the HTML field is completely eliminated.

Is there some way to simulate the 'Validation Show If' operation for the text box with HTML editor?

Also, is this now fixed on CSS Form Builder 2 which includes the HTML editor?

there are two things you need here, both are separate.

1) Show the Previous entry when validation fails.

For each form element, select it in design view. In the properties inspector, click the lightning bolt next to Initial Value. From the Dynamic data bindings list, expand the validated entries and select the coresponding item from the list.

2) Show an error message next to failed form elements.

Type the error message, the select it. On the server behaviors panel, click the plus button and select WA Validation Toolkit -> Validation Show If. From the list of validations, select the validation that should trigger the error to show. and click the plus button.
