Product Advance Options

Can product advance options be used to add value add products.

For example:

If I sell computers can I setup software and accessories as a value add or product option to choose from or is this just for colors, size, etc?

I have tried to add this before but it does not seem to workout correctly.

Yes this can be done with advanced options.

An option cannot be another product, but really it just depends on how you think about it.

advanced options are stored as a unique product.

So in the DB There would be the computer product, and also the computer with MS Word as another product.

what exactly was the problem you had setting this up in the past?

Hi Jason,

I added a software advance product option to a desktop computer product.

I added a $ amount as the value.

Then I clicked the finish button.

I browse to the product with the option I just added.

But I am assuming the drop down list would first be empty until I select it and choose the software as an option or value added product.

Then when I click add to cart I was expecting the total of the 2.

Product + Product Option = Total

But I only get the Product Price

I don't know if I am understanding this correctly.

when you create advanced options, the first one you create will be the default option.

set a default option as "Select an Option"

then create the other options after that.

When editing the products, you need to select the option you want to edit to be able to set the price for the product with that option.

the price is not calculated as Price + Option.

each option is a unique product with it's own price.

So Product without options is one product with it's unique price.

Product with option1 is another product with it's unique price.
