Redundant entries in db

Why is there so much redundancy in the database?
Check my screenshot.
Maybe I'm wrong and I don't know much about how databases work but I would think there would be a more efficient way of doing this.
By the time I'm done entering all my products "Medium" will have recurred as a separate entry hundreds of times. Doesn't seem logical.

This is how power store manages Advanced Options.

When using advanced option, each option is a unique item that can have a differant Description, picture price and other attributes.

OK. I'll accept that.

But could you please address this thread
showthread.php?t=16210
Ray opened a ticket for the original author and I jumped in right after because I have the same exact problem. Don't know if Ray knows or not.
I need to get into the admin and can't.
It's desperation time.

Please help.
