Data Assist Wizard won't open

I get the message DataAssist Wizard is compatible only for the following server modesl:
ColdFusion, PHP, ASP VBScript, ASP Javascript. I can only click OK which quit the program and I can't use it. I do have PHP available on the hosting site and in my local testing site.

Hi Dick,

Can you provide any other information like which version of Dreamweaver are you running, what operating system, and are you using the latest version of data assist?

Best regards,

Brian

I am using Windows 7 and Dreamweaver CS5. I just bought DataAssist so it must be the latest version.

before running the DataAssist Wizard:

Define a Dynamic site In Dreamweaver:
dynamic_site_definitions.php

Create a Database Connection:
creating_db_connection.php

Create a new dynamic page, PHP is recommended. save it to the site, and have the Dynamic page open in Dreamweaver.

Data Wizard won't open

I think this is getting somewhere. My problem is that I am not using a localhost testing site. I have a separate testing domain name on the same hosting site as my live site.

I would use a localhost site but I am already using it for another website I work with. The problem seems to be that you can't have more than one localhost on a computer.

I'm thinking I must learn how to properly set up the Dreamweaver testing site. The problem I have there is knowing what to use in the MySQL server field in the MySQL COnnection screen.

I am studying the material on the two pages you pointed at.

Thanks for the help.

Dick

you can create multiple directories in the local host site. each sub directory will be far a specific site.

in other words, for my local MAMP server, the root is at /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/

I create a sub directory there for each site:
/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/site1/
/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/site2/
/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/site3/

this method allows you to have multiple sites hosted on your one local host

Question: I am using XAMPP. I see you use WAMP. Any thoughts about the +/- of each?

Im using MAMP (on a Mac)

On my PC i prefer xampp. xampp contains a full install of PHP meaning all of the extesnions are available, which is not the case with wamp. In xamp, if you need to enable an extesnion like cURL, you just have to edit the php.ini file, and restart.

with wamp, the cURL extension is not included, so your out of luck. other extensions are also not included.

xampp is a much better way to go in my opinion.
