ajax or php or javascript script update page content without page refresh

Not sure if this is the right place for this question?
I am working on a live auction site and want to update the content of the page to show all viewers the latest bid. I want to do this without refreshing the page.
The latest bid information is updated in a recordset when anyone clicks the submit button to bid.

Thanks for your help,
Jim Balthrop

Yeah, I would look into using ajax. Using a framework such as MooTools will make ajax stuff even easier.
