Can't get email to work

Can't get email to work

On the settings page in powerstore 3 admin, I see where you define a mail server. I assume this is the name of the smtp server needed to send emails. However, I don't see something that would allow me to provide user name and password credentials to use the smtp server. I could not find any info on how to set up the mail server. Bottom line is the system is not sending out emails. Can someone who has this successfully working let me know what I am supposed to do here? I have added an attachement showing a picture of this

Thanks!

Brian

Power store uses the php mail() function for sending the email, the mail() function does not offer support for passing a username and password to the server.

you set the smtp server on the first page, but the Registration Email and Store Email tabs are you define the email from address. In many cases the from address must be a valid email on the same domain as the SMTP server.

who is your host? the SMTP server looks like a godaddy server.

If you are using godaddy, you will need to ensure that your hosting package is a linux hosting package, GoDaddy is notoriously difficult for sending emails using a php script, and they do not support the php mail() function on their windows hosting plans.

Hi Jason, thanks for your feedback! The smtp server is goddady, but I'm running the actual store application off my own server. I'm almost positive that pear is not installed on my server. After I read some threads about universal email (which I also have) it looks like a common problem is that PEAR is not installed. Is PEAR a requirement for powerstore 3? If it is, I'm guessing that is my problem.

Thanks so much for your help!!

No, Pear is not needed for power store.

most likely the issu is that you are using your own server, goDaddys SMTP server will not relay email messages that come from an outside server, you will need to find another smtp server to use.

Okay, I see that the mail function does not allow for authenticated smtp. Is that wierd that I see that as an obvious oversite? How do most people get this to work without an authenticated smtp server? I'm obviously missing something here.

the php mail function will only work with an SMTP server that does not require username and password authentication.

There are many SMTP servers available that do not require authentication.

The SMTP server from many hosting companies are set to allow emails to be relayed with out authentication as long as the from address is one that belongs to the hosted domain.
