download center question

download center question

I've been reading the docs on setting up a download center and have run into a snag. In the docs it says this

"Instead, create a new folder on your server that is outside of the folder containing your site. Within this folder you should store all the digital goods. This way, they can only be retrieved using the Digital File Pro Download File Server Behavior applied to a page in your site."

I am on a shared server with godaddy, and they don't allow (as far as I know) for you to have folders outside of your root folder. Any suggestions for a work around, or am I missing something?

Unfortunately, if GoDaddy does not allow you to have access to below root folders, there's probably not much you can do other than change hosts.

Not to be negative, but from my experience and the general consensus from other developers I have worked with, GoDaddy is probably one of the worst places to host anything. They have a very cookie cutter approach with lack of customization and not great support either.

I know several hosts, though, that will allow you below root access and are probably even cheaper than GoDaddy. One that will allow you that access that I have found to have great customer support is Site5 www.site5.com/.

Regards,

Brian

Yeah maybe it's time for me to start thinking about moving. Thanks for the info.
I have a few sites, (lol all on godaddy) I wonder if I stored those files on another sites root if that would help at all with keeping them away from people.
