Cart description, short description, long description text limits?

Cart description, short description, long description text limits?

I keep getting an error when trying to update a product in my database with new text in the cart, short, or long description entries. For example: in long description, if I type in anything longer than a simple paragraph, I get an internal server error and the changes don't load. Is this due to a fixed limit on the number of characters allowed for these fields? Obviously, the cart and short description should be very short, but what if I need more space for the long description? What is the limit?

Is this editable? Let me know, thanks!

The product long description column is set to use the text datatype:
`ProductLongDesc` text NOT NULL,

the size is probably not the cause of the error.

The 500 internal server error is a very vague error that really only says "An Error Has Occurred", some servers will suppress errors from displaying and only show the vague 500 error. to get to the heart of the matter, we need to know what the real error is.

you may be able to turn error reporting on by adding the following code at line one of the product insert page:

php:
<?php

error_reporting
(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors','on');
?>

if this does not show a more descriptive error message, you should contact your host to look into the server error logs. Once we know the real error, we can look into the cause.

Errors shown

When I try to submit the updates to a product with longer text, the server error log shows that the favicon.ico file does not exist, the 404.shtml file does not exist, and the 500.shtml file does not exist (the 500.shtml is bring referred by the product update itself, and the other two by the general site address).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Still need help

The server errors I keep seeing are just based on no favicon or 500 or 404 files existing... meaning it's just not finding the error files to display when the actual error occurs. There is still something wrong with inputting larger amounts of text into Powerstore products and attempting to upload.

Hopefully you can provide some ideas here, as the product is useless without me being able to input the text I need. I purchased the Solution Suite AND the Extensions Library annual membership last week--meaning everything you offer on the site, and I would certainly hope you don't expect me to pay for support one week later on this one question!
