How Do I edit the Power Store 3 Site before uploading to the Remote Server?

Hi, I have installed the MYSQL PHP for the testing server. The next step is, how do I upload the files from power store 3 zip folder to the MYSQL testing server to edit it? Also, could I edit the components in the power store 3 in Dreamweaver or MYSQL testing server utilizing other extensions such as Creative Dreamweaver Show Pro, Creative Dreamweaver Menu Pack or Flexi Panels? Additionally, every time I clicked on the live view or the Preview in other browsers available in Dreamweaver CS5 to view the files, it always directed me to a separate browser with the installation wizard page. How do I stop this? If I choose not to stop this process and just go with the installation but have not uploaded to the hosting server, will this process finalized the installation? Will I be able to go back and modify the site after uploading? If I were to complete the installation without first uploading it to my remote server, will I be able to upload the files and install it again? Thank you for your reply and assistance.

It is best to upload the files to your server first and go through the install. Then you can edit the files for the store back in DW.

Unless you have remote access to the MySQL server you will need to have the database locally to do more development. To move the db from the live server you will need to export it from the live server, then import it locally. After you have done that you will need to login and update some values in the wa_settings table. In here you will want to update the Root URL as well as the local and remote roots. This will allow you to have a copy of the db locally so that you can modify the pages and server behaviors in DW.

As for using other extensions on PowerStore it is a standard php and html site so you should be able to use any of your current extensions on the PowerStore. The store is designed to work properly in it's default state and it is not suggested to try and update it unless you are very comfortable with the types of edits you are making. Before you make any edits you should make sure to backup the site so that you can revert it if there are any problems.

How do I do the steps you have mentioned

Hi Eric,

Thank you for your help. My questions are: how do I export the files from the live server, then import it locally? After completing the necessary steps, where do I log in to in order to update some values in the wa_settings table? Further, how do I update the Root URL as well as the local and remote roots? Additionally, do I just need to upload it remotely to the live server and that's it or do I have to do something else for it to synchronize with the entire files? Thank you again for helping this newbie.

Sincerely,

Al

The PowerStore is just a set of files and the data in the db. So if you would like to move it from one location to another you only need to move over the files and info in the db. When you do move it though you will need to go directly into your db and update the values for the URL's in the wa_settings table. You would only do so after moving the files to another location and importing the db.

Once you have it migrated successfully it should work just as it did after you installed it the first time. If you login to the admin area you will be able to adjust the settings for the site and do all of the other administrative tasks like updating and adding new products. You can then also visit the front end of the site to make use of the store and shop it.
