Using unlisted merchant gateway

I'm a newbie to eCart. I've built a php eCart and and trying to link to to a merchant service called Virtual Merchant. It's not listed among the providers in the Checkout Wizard. How do I configure eCart with custom gateway? I hope this makes sense. :)

We do not offer support for using gateways tha tare not listed in eCart.

To use a custom gateway, you will need to refer tp the gateways API documentation and hand code the transaction process.

Thank you! Where can I find the API documentation on this?

you would need to obtain the API documentation from the payment gateway.

Too bad it's not supported. I've had two customers in one week request Virtual Merchant. Let me know if you were able to add this and if it was difficult?
