Fresh install issues with localhost environment

hey,

I just downloaded the powerstore and I noticed the bug fixes..... so i completed them and now i get this error:

Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0

Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required 'C:/xampp/htdocs/store/install/2.php' (include_path='.;C:\xampp\php\PEAR') in Unknown on line 0

That is after i replaced the "2" with the updated one....

Sound like a permission issue.... I am using DW CS4 and Xampp as my local server environment on a windows vista machine....

I change the permissions on the testing server but it doesnt help anything.... i have a feeling that it isnt actually changing the permossions b/c below the checkboxes for the permission setting in DW it says " these setting may not work on some servers"

A lot of good that does me huh?

Is there some way to CHMOD the permissions at the top of the document or a way to bypass this issue?

I HAVE to test locally before final presentation...

If there are permissions issues on the files in your local site then you should go to the folder and right click it, then go to properties. This is where you can set the permissions.

Did you put the 2.php file inside of the install folder?

Yea if i go right click and set permission on the testing server i can set them... but it has no effect as it is on a windows server (IIS i believe is what Xampp uses for a local test environment....)

Basically I dont think there is such a thing as permissions on windows servers (most actual remote are linux) which would explain the big disclaimer in dw about how "this setting might not work on some servers"... plus i also did some google research

Yes, the 2.php is in the install folder and all the directories are correct

If I go back to the original 2.php I can bypass that error.... but after database details it says to re upload install folder as it cant find the SQL template file..... which is in the templates folder in the root directory and in the store/templates directory as well (my powerstore location)

Why cant it just work like a remote server?

I'm having a hard time understanding what you have tried to deal with the error you were getting. All servers have file permissions, Windows or Linux, it does not matter. Xamp is an automatic server setup that uses Apach, MySQL, and PHP, the amp part of the name is an acronym for this.

The sql template that it referring to is not a page template in the templates directory, but it is a db.sql file that is in the install > scripts folder. What is the exact error that you are getting now when you try to run through the installer? It might be a good idea to start the process over again from scratch if there is anything strange happening. If you start it over make sure to delete any existing files and tables from the db so it uses a fresh set of files and information.
