Change Profile

I would like to add some fields to my users Profile page. It is important that these new fields are on the Profile page, not the Registration page. I have no problem adding new fields to the form. My new fields will not update in the database when I test the form. Can someone tell me how to do this? Thanks so much.

there are 3 things you will need to do:

1) edit the Users table to add new columns for a the additional profile information. since you will not be collecting this information on the registration page, make sure these new columns are configured to allow null values.

2) Add the new form elements to the profile page.

3) Edit the Update Record server behavior on the profile page. You will need to have Data Assist installed to complete this step. Go to Window -> Server Behaviors.

In the server behaviors list, double click the Update Record server behavior.

On the second page of the wizard, select each of the new Columns in the users table, then click the lightning bolt icon to bind the column top the corresponding form element.

Binding

Jason,

You mention the three steps below. I was able to get it working. One of the things that I was doing wrong in the server behavior was to change the key, which of course, if I had thought about this at all, the key should remain set at "UserID". I properly set the new field in the second page of the server behavior wizard. Even after your instructions below, which were very good, I was still having trouble displaying the results, even though they were being posted on the database. I went into bindings, and made the mistake of connecting to the Forms database rather than the lightning bolt database. I finally figured out that I was not connecting to the data, and changed the binding to the users database rather than the form field file. I can be confusing.

Question, do I need to update both the server behavior and the binding each time that I introduce a new form field in the Profile?

Thank you for your clear and quick response. Very helpful.

yes, the server behavior will need to be updated any time you add new form elements.

binding

Now I see why you did not specify going to the binding panel to bind the form field to the dtabase. This can be done in the Dreamweaver properties inspector.

Yes, tyo set the form elements initial value, you should use the Dreamweaver property inspector.

New Fields to Registration

Thanks for your comments. I added several fields to the Profile, and they are all working. I would like to add a few fields also to the Registration form (long). I have read other forum posts on this. I open users_Registration in DR, then Server Behaviors, but I do not see the Insert Record (users) behavior in order to bind the input field to the database. My only option is to add a new server behavior. It seems that there should be a an existing behavior to modify. This does not seem right. Can you tell me next steps. Thanks.

Have you made any modifications to the code?

Do you have DataAssist installed?

can you try with a fresh copy of the users registration page?

perhaps try deleting the dreamweaver cache file from the users configuration folder:

Fix for missing server behavior

Thanks. I took your advice and resinstalled a new registration page. It works fine now.
