Big Problem options disappearing

Big Problem options disappearing

I had a customer insert about 50 products with a simple option of size and they were all still there the next day, but they had to go back and add another option to each of the 50 products. When they had finished both the size option and the option they added were gone from all the products except the last one they edited. There were some products I had entered before then and these were unaffected, it was just the 50 that were inserted. I have been looking into every possible reason I can think of as to why they just disappeared, and I cannot figure it out. My customer has lost confidence in this project and telling him that I have no clue why the options just disappeared will only make things worse. All of the products affected by this were inserted within 24 hours of the problem, and the only one not affected was the last one entered. I highly doubt he went through and accidentally deleted all of the options from each product, and the hosting company has not been doing any changes or updates, the only thing i can think of is code somewhere that might cause this to happen.

Is this an issue that you can reproduce with any regularity? There is not anything in the code that I'm aware of that would update or delete all of these records. Do you have any backups of the db at any point with any of these options?

If you could cause the issue to happen again it would help a great deal in trying to resolve the problem. When the issue occurred were any new products being inserted or was it only options that were being added? The code on the page to manage options has the ability to update or remove options but this code should not run unless it is triggered. Were you present when any of these options were removed from the db? Also, were these simple, conditional, or advanced options?

I tried to reproduce the error and have not been able to. I had been testing the ordering process and the options were there, then about 15 mins later I got a call from the person inputting the products saying that they all disappeared. I added a couple options to a couple products and went through the same ordering process and that was not it. I tried all kinds of things with the options like adding or deleting them and then clicking to another product before clicking finish. Nothing I tried will duplicate the problem. The problem is probably not with your code, just to be sure I wanted to verify that there were not any similar issues reported.

There are no issues with this type of behavior that I'm aware of. If you are able to do the same type of actions without getting the result then it seems that it might be a fluke or a user error. I have seen several times where things like this have happened and the user responsible was just not aware of the actions they took to do this.

I just lost around 350 options again on another site i am working on, once again i was testing the ordering process and they all dissapeared. I tried to re-create the problem again this time and still nothing went wrong. All of my products have a simple option of size and I was testing multiple simple options in the cart. I added a simple option "test option" with values a, b and c. I went through on the customer side and ordered one, the receipt came up fine and everything worked as I was planning so I deleted the test option I made, and this was the only delete statement that was called that day as far as i know. all of the products have no options on them anymore. As far as modifying the code goes I have not even touched the admin section, or anything before the product details page aside from removing the categories spry on the left column. Is there any way a delete statement could have been messed up somewhere along the line and ended up deleting everything. my customer is really losing confidence in this and I do not know what to say about this.

I can open a ticket for you so that we can look into this further. Do you know for sure that the options disappeared immediately after you removed these test options? Please update your ticket with any other details that you can come up with. To update the ticket login and visit your support history.

There is a section in the product page that when you switch from Advance Options to Simple Options, and in the process your Delete the former Simple or Advance options it will delete all the products in the database... NOT COOL... I can have our technical staff send you the exact section tomorrow.... my email address is bbolt@busdevplanners.com.. please send me an email.. thanks bob.
