Error messages when trying to insert a Spry component

Error messages when trying to insert a Spry component

I just bought CSS Sculptor today to take advantage of the sale price. I am getting error messages (JS errors) when trying to apply a Spry component to the effect that Spry is not defined.

I am using Dreamweaver CS5. Is that the reason?

also ..

I love the idea of being able to get color suggestions for a color scheme based on one color, but can't see a way to apply those colors once I get the colors I want to use. When I apply the theme with the color that I want, the finished page is still the default template colors. How does one get the color changes to apply? This is a great idea .. if it works. :)

And one more .. do your NNTP forums no longer work? Web based forums are the pits .. I surely hope one more company hasn't decided they are not valid.

Thanks
Nancy

What is the exact JS error you are getting?

After you generate a color palette, you need to edit the colors above in the list. Click on a swatch and it will load a color picker. Then sample from one of the colors you generated.

Our forums are web based, you could use RSS to get updates if that works better for you.

The JS error is that Spry is not defined. But the way the CSS Sculptor is set up, there is no way to first save the page with the Spry components and after you select one of them in the + on the Box screen, apparently, it's not adding the Spry dependent files and therefore, does not think it's been added. I haven't seen anything in the documentation to tell me anything other than what I have been doing.

After the Spry Component has been added and I have tried both Tabs and Accordion, this error persists on every screen throughout the rest of the procedure. The Component is added, but it's not the piece of cake to edit the CSS that it should be.

Thanks for the advice on the color palette .. I will try out your suggestions. I can totally believe that I'm doing it wrong.

Web Assist used to have NNTP forums .. sad that they no longer have them. RSS is not a 2 way street.

Maybe try updating your Spry to the latest version. Adobe.com should have a free .mxp you can install to get the latest Spry and maybe that will do the trick. If you can provide a screenshot of the error, your operating system, and Dreamweaver version, that will help as well.

The web interface for the NNTP forums was pretty bad, so this interface is much better in that respect. If you used a news reader, the old way was likely better, but for the most part people use the web interface so this new forum works better for the majority of our users. RSS and/or subscribed threads can at least alert you of responses which is a start at least.

AFAIK, I am using the latest version of Spry. I am using DW CS5. Unless CSS Sculptor is packed with its own files, I am using the latest version of Spry.

NNTP is far more efficient as anyone who has used them knows. It's only those who can't get the hang of NNTP that insist it isn't as good. It's older technology but it's a lot faster than any web interface out there .. and on a forum, that is the point.

Ok .. when applying a Spry anything:

Click the + sign on the Box screen
Select Collapsible Panel (or the Tabs or the Accordion panels)
Set the options and click Apply.

This error is presented:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line 222
Char 1
Error: 'Spry' is undefined
Code: 0
URL: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Nancy/Application%20Data/Adobe/Dreamweaver%20CS5/en_US/Configuration/Shared/WebAssist/Preview/wa

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

I say yes and it continues. However, for every tab on the CSS Customization panel that I click on, the error represents itself and continues running to the next phase. Go to the next one and get the error again. Click continue and it goes on. At the end, click OK and get the error again. Click continue and it renders the page .. although it's not quite what I asked for.

Couple that with the fact that only Cabo works (every time the Customize CSS is selected with another design selected, it immediately defaults back to Cabo) and I'm sorry .. but this extension is pretty much unusable. I bought this because I thought it would be a quick way to get a design going but it's more problems than it is help in its current status.

Where do I go for a refund?

There is a fix in the other thread about the Cabo Sunset issue. Simply replacing that file will fix that issue for now until a new version is out.

I can elevate the Spry issue if you want, otherwise just email sales[at]webassist.com to handle a refund. Let me know what you want to do.

I'm a little surprised that the Spry problem isn't a known issue. It should be happening to everyone who tries to use the feature.

Even this issue aside, this thing isn't what it was billed to be. It's full of problems and while I write CSS myself without issue, I thought it would be a great way to speed up the process. It has not proven to be such.

I'll email for the refund. The license agreement said you had to phone, but if you say I can email, I shall do so and tell them you said to handle it that way.

Thanks .. sorry this was such a disappointing experience.

I'm having the same problem

I just purchased the CSS Scuptor upgrade about an hour ago. I'm having the same problem when I try to insert Spry. I'm also using Dreamweaver CS5. I too am very disappointed with CSS Sculptor. There really isn't much more to it than there was. I also would like my money back. Perhaps down the road when you have added functionality that is worth the $50.00 upgrade I will think of upgrading again. I know the issue is not with using spry widgets in my Dreamweaver CS5 because it works fine when I insert them without the CSS Sculptor...just in an empty page. How do I go about getting my money back. Do I have to call or can it be handled by email?

Sincerely,

Karen Chudobiak
