Site Sculptor nav question

Hi all, I have set up a site with 6 pages, when I am on the index page I have links to the 5 other pages which Is fine but when go to any of the other pages I don't get a link back to the home page.
Can I add this link in or do I need too change my template in someway? If so how do I do this?
So far I am very pleased with the software but can't find a way to edit the layout once it is created.

Hi Garry,

This happens when I use Sculptor too. I have no idea of the thinking behind it, hopefully someone will clear that up. It means that every Sculptor menu has to be edited before uploading.

You will need to open one of your pages (other than the index page) and re-enter the menuwriter interface to add the link to the home page. You do this by:

Click on the little javascript icon that shows in Dreamweaver 'design view' just underneath the menu [see attached image 1]. If it doesn't show, go to DW menu > Edit > Preferences > Invisible Elements > and make sure that the 'Scripts' checkbox is ticked.

In the properties panel at the bottom of the page the menu edit items should be displaying. Click on the middle one - 'Edit contents'. [image 2].

Highlight the top item 'Home Page' and click the plus (+) button above the window, and select 'static link'. [image 3]. Name it 'Home' (or whatever you want) and link it to index.php [image 4]. With the new link highlighted in the list, use the 'up' arrow to move it to the top of the list. [image 5].

Click OK and OK again to finish.

The home page should be linked from all content pages. Make sure you don't have the Home Page marked to not be included in the navigation. Click the first define button and double check in that interface.

As Justin stated above, the home page should be added into the menu unless the checkbox for Do not include this page in the navigation is checked for the home page. If you click on the define button next to the Site Type in the main Site Sculptor interface, you can check this.

Thanks Jimmy and Justin,

I will revisit this and see what went wrong. Perhaps the checkbox you mention should be (sorry -edit) unchecked by default? Is it checked by default?

the home page should be added into the menu unless the checkbox for Do not include this page in the navigation is checked for the home page.

I didn't - in any test - check such a box!

Also could someone address Garry's last post please?

Oops - can't I re-enter the Sculptor UI, and there is no 'edit' function on any Sculptor preset as there is for any other extensions. How to get back in, please?

The setting to hide a menu item is unchecked by default. Site Sculptor is not re-entrant. You can load the wizard again and use your saved presets to get back to where you were. There are few other threads discussing this too.

Hi Jimmy and Justin (Sorry Garry)

No, it's not the case that the home page link gets added unless you check a box for it not to be added. The attached image shows my precise settings.

So this does mean that unless you know that you have to add a Homepage as a child of 'Home Page' and add it while still in the GUI, it's goinf to be bothersome having to edit the code later on.

Also, please could you let me know how to change the menu (in the CSSMenuWriter GUI) so that it doesn't put a site-root relative forward slash at the beginning of each link? Every time I delete them Sculptor/menuwriter immediately puts them back in again.

Thanks

Also please would someone address post #4?

still getting error

thanks everyone for getting involved but I still get the same error message (do we know exactly what it means ?) I have had a look at the check box for hiding the page and it is un-checked.
also to confirm when I follow the instructions of the first reply where i go into 'edit content' of the menu i click the plus sign to add a page and it just puts one in the list (not giving me the option of static or dynamic as per the screen shot, dont know if this means anything.
2nd thing that seems wrong is in design view the nav-bar is out of line (hanging an inch or so to the left of the main site, but in live view looks ok) see attachment
Thank again

Are you guys talking about using Site Sculptor or Menu Writer? I believe Menu Writer 2.0.5 fixes that issue. There are few threads talking about the same issue too if you do a search for wa.generate.menu
