Installation Wizard MAMP Problems

I am trying to install PowerGallery on a MAMP testing server and when I enter info into the wizard host/server /Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.sock and such I get no connection.

Then if I quit and try to set it up again I get this (see image). I have not found a good reference for setting this up with a testing server. By good I mean something that takes you all the way through.

Please help

the most common issue with Mamp is that the root account is configured without a password.
Power gallery will not work on servers where the root password is blank.

See the following documentation from the Mamp site for changing the root password:
faq.html#q9

In the wizard, you should be entering "localhost" as the MySQL server name, it sounds like you are entering "/Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.sock" instead.
