Shopping Cart Table instead of Session?

I have used eCart (ASP) for some time and know how the eCart Object works using Session Variables for storing the Shopping Cart contents on the front end of a website.

However, i want my backend SQL design to now run my ShoppingCart contents inside of a Table. In other words when the person Add's to cart it will insert the contents directly into the Table, thereby storing their order details.

My problem is working out a robust solution to transfer the line items from the ShoppingCart table across to both an OrdersSummary Table (1 row) and the OrderDetails table (1 or many rows) once the person completes Checkout.

I was thinking it might need to be a TRANSACTION based Stored Procedure.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

ECart can already do this for you.

On your confirm page, add a couple of server behaviors...

ECart --> Database Manipulation-->Store Cart Details in Database
ECart --> Database Manipulation-->Store Cart Summary in Database

You could add this information at the 'add to cart stage' but I wouldn't do this, as the cart contents may change significantly whilst browsing
