unformatted preview with IE6 installed

I have just purchase CSS Menu Writer, but in the lower panel (below where you select menu/category, etc.) the buttons do not show - just the text for each button.

If I preview it in a browser they appear ok.

I have tried un-installing the extension and re-loading it - no joy!

I am running Dreamweaver CS3 on a Win XP Professional system with 1gb RAM installed and plenty of HDD space

The environment and setup seem ok to me. What exactly are you seeing in this part of the interface? Normally the selections in the first part of the interface are available in select lists. I'm including a screen shot of the main interface as a reference. Please post back and describe exactly what you are seeing, if you could post a screen shot that would also be very helpful.

Thanks for the screen shot, it helps alot. I'm very familiar with this view, it is what I see on my older xp machine that has IE6 installed. The preview will just not display properly when IE6 is the installed browser. If you update to IE7 or 8 it should fix this issue for you. If after updating you still see just the plain text in the preview you may need to re-install the extension.

You should still be able to see the preview in the browse like you noted though, so the worst case scenario is that you will need to manually preview in your browse if you are not able to update the version of IE.

Thank you for your reply
I only use ie6 to test the sites I build - if it works in this it will work in most other browser versions.
My actual internet browser, installed as the default browser is Firefox.
Is there anything else that I could do?

This is a limitation of having IE 6 installed with this tool. Even though it is not your default browser it is the engine that it will try to use. One way that I ensure that I can test for IE 6 compatibility is by making use of IE tester. It is not exactly the same as a native IE6 install but it works very well.

I left IE6 installed on my xp machine for quite some time just to have the browser around to test with, but I gave it up recently as it seems industry wide support for IE 6 is dropping off.
