CS3 / CS5 hangs on preview

feeling bored, because no progress here: Data Assist Wizard hangs on Step2 while preparing the preview.
I had hoped that in CS5 this bug has been eliminated, but no joy.
This window stops CS5 completely. Has to be killed, same way as CS3.

Are you selecting to use a template on the first page?

If so, try not using a template.

There may be a problem with the template that is causing issues with the preview creation.

If the preview is working without a template, double check that the template is correct.

I have seen issues like this arise if there is javascript on the page causing error.

yes I created a template

yes, I created a template using Eric Meyer's CSS Sculptor and I bought it because I thought these two extensions will play together well, since they are from the same source - WebAssist?
Why would the use of a template kill Dreamweaver in activated preview mode??

The extensions will play nicely together. The template may break the preview if there is javascript added that has errors in it.

a good test is to create a page from the template and open it in IE7 or 8. Make sure to set IE to display a warning about every script error.

you can also try opening the page in Fire Fox, then opening the error console to see any errors that are reported.

If you can send a copy of the template and any supporting Image files, javascipt files and css, I can reproduce the problem on my end and determine the cause of the issue.

Thanks for your prompt reply

I could not find errors in the template, neither IE nor FF or Opera. May I attach the zipped Template here?

Hmm, for days now no reaction. Have I missed something?

got a call yesterday

thanks to Jason it seems there is a solution on this. In my (maybe special) case I use a Linux / SAMBA / LAMP testing server in a LAN environment. And if you use a site definition like

\\testing.server\path_to\project.directory

it seems that Preview in the Wizard (Step 2) cannot work. So we changed it to

W:\project.directory

using network drives in Windows (ver7/64) and it works fine now. No idea why this makes a difference but so it was.

Thanks again, Jason for your time and pointing in the right direction.
