not able to upload documents and link to them

not able to upload documents and link to them

to insert a standard image is ok.
but how do I insert a link to a document (.doc, pdf or spreadsheet) that's on the site.
previously the editor would allow uploads of any file type and put a link in.
now I have to ftp the files and manually remember the links.
there is not a mechanism to upload files - if there is PLEASE SOME ONE TELL ME.
this is not good enough to hand over to a non-techy client.

When I add it to the allowed image types I can upload and link to the pdf file without issue. Here is what my settings look like for the allowed images inside of the config.php file at HTMLEditor > editor > filemanager > connectors > php:

$Config['AllowedExtensions']['Image']    = array('bmp','gif','jpeg','jpg','png', 'pdf') ;

What is the result that you get if you add it here?
